Since I am behind on blogs, I am going to talk about my interest in motorsports. Many years ago here in the US, if anyone said they were watching a race, they almost certainly meant nascar. So for many years I associated motorsports with nascar. I thought nascar was boring, and I still do, but I never really looked further into it. About two years ago I got into f1, which is the most popular motorsport category in the world. Then I started looking into other motorsport categories, like World Endurance Championship (WEC), Indycar, and GT Racing. A little bit more than a week ago, the Formula 1 season began in Bahrain, and as expected the race was pretty boring. On Saturday the second round was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and another boring race. Much of the time, f1 races can be pretty boring which is part of why I enjoy watching other categories more, such as Indycar. The Indycar season began on sunday in St. Petersburg, Florida. As expected it was a much more enjoyable watch, but still quite boring by Indycar standards.
I have been lucky enough to go to an Indycar race, specifically at Laguna Seca, which is one of the most famous racing circuits ever made. The track is like 20 minutes from Monterrey, and it is such a cool track. Being at the track is way more fun than watching at home. The cars are very loud, and you can feel the sound of the cars deep in your stomach. While we went to Laguna Seca for the Indycar race, there were support categories at the track which I honestly found to be way cooler than the Indycars. The support categories at the race were Indy NXT, otherwise known as Indy Lights, Porsche Sprint Cup US West, and a Radical cup. I really did not expect the Radicals to be as cool as they were. Radicals are relatively cheap(race car standards) race cars made by Radical in the UK. While they don’t look like it, they are super fast, and were very cool to see. The Porsches were the loudest cars there by far. Despite that, they were also very cool. I found pictures of the porsches after we got back from the race and saw that they were catching a little bit of air through the most famous part of the track, and where we were sitting, the corkscrew. The corkscrew features a five story drop and its so cool to see the cars go through there. The Indycar race was absolute chaos. The Indycar drivers caused 9 safety car periods, and the safety car led so many laps that it ran out of fuel. It was very interesting to me that I found the support categories to be more interesting. (probably helped that there was way less people watching them)
