I went to the Gold Rush Tournament hosted by sensei Bennati’s dojo about a week ago in grass valley. It was great see all of the people from the dojo there. We had a really good showing at the tournament, it was actually the most people from our dojo I’ve seen at a tournament that we didn’t host. I only competed in kata at the tournament. Me and Brody were in the same division as well as 3 other brown belts from sensei Bennati’s dojo. I performed seisan at the tournament, which was good enough for second place. After looking at the footage of my seisan from the dojo I found some things that I can improve from the kata. While I was at the tournament I had thought that a few of the mistakes I had made during the kata were due to the slippery mat, but after watching I have seen that that is not the case. I found that I wasn’t pulling punches back far enough, and that my timing was off a little bit. I have been working on these in my kata over the last week. It was great to see everyone competing at the tournament.

Congratulations on doing well at the tournament. It takes courage to preform kata in front of people. The more you do it the less difficult and easier it becomes.
