next year’s school schedule

About a week ago the school district released the start date for the upcoming school year, which will be my senior year of high school. School is scheduled to start a whole 8 days earlier than normal on monday august, 19th. School isn’t ending 8 days earlier either. Instead of the normal 180 days of school we will have 188. The reason for the additional days of school is a teacher strike that happened in april of 2022. More than TWO years ago. Back then we just thought that they were going to add an additional 8 days to the 2021-2022 school year, which of course nobody was going to attend. In the end they didn’t do that and we just figured that those 8 days of school were just going to disappear and we would never have them, but now we are going to have those 8 days of school. Pretty obviously absolutely no one is happy with this. I know a few people who are just not going to show up on those 8 days and I don’t blame them. We shouldn’t be having these 8 days now. Of course the school district doesn’t actually care what the students or teachers think about anything. The school district doesn’t listen to the teachers or students. The only way that people make stuff get done through the school district is when parents complain about something. For example, that strike that caused all of this. At this point we all pretty much thought that we were going to get an extended spring break. There was one week until spring break, and the teachers union had not reached an agreement with the district, which would’ve meant at least one more day of strikes, but at the pace it was going, we were all pretty sure it was going to go all the way until spring break. Me and my friend were talking about this the sunday before the week before spring break, and literally 30 minutes later the school district called and said that school was going to go ahead the following day. Why did this happen? Well, a few parents complained about having to actually take care of their kids and magically the teachers union made an agreement with the school district pretty much right away. Amazing how the people who have the least amount to do with the school system have the most say. Of course we are lucky enough to get this for our senior year, which is very annoying.

My current Challenge progress as of December 23, 2024.
