Another book I am in the middle of is You Are Here by Thich Nhat Hanh. I have really enjoyed this book so far. One of the concepts in the book is mindfulness and being in tune with the task at hand. Instead of multitasking and divding your attention. I normally pride myself on being a good multitasker. This book has helped me recognize the difference between “real” multitasking and being more present in the moment. I notice my mind tends to wander a lot. I have tried to be more present. One example is while I am practicing kata. Sometimes I am worried about the time, how many more reps I need to finish, or the random work assignment I need to work on. Lately, I have been trying to turn off the “extra noise” and focus. I think about the next step, the next block, next punch etc. I have noticed this helps me with paying attention to detail on my stances and targets. I also have been doing this at home with my fur babies. Ever since I lost my dog Mia back in March, I have been trying to spend more one-on-one time with each pet. When its one-on-one time with whoever, I try to really focus on them and playing with them. It brings more joy into my day. Before I would be thinking about everything on my to-do list and I was going through the motions. Now that I am practicing being present mentally and physically in the moment with them, I have noticed how much more relaxed I am. This has also helped me decompress from work and turn off the “work” side of my brain.

It is an excellent book. I really enjoyed reading it myself. There is lots of great content and information to learn from that book.
