My friends at Mighty Crane Kenpo Karate run by Sensei Tony has invited me to train with them 2 times now and both times I have had a great time at their dojo. I first met Sensei Tony when he and some of his students came to train with us at my dojo about a year ago. After that we were invited to his big tournament that he hosts almost every year and he was impressed with my performance so we kept in contact and I’m glad we did. He has given me a great opportunity to go to a free seminar that his sensei taught about different self defense techniques, we also worked on pressure points, different stances, and how to defend against weapons. It was a very different experience than what my dojo teaches but Im glad I get to learn new things too. The second time I visited Sensei Tony’s dojo was a sparring class. First he had me go through the warm ups and teach the class the warm ups punches and kicks we do to warm up then we got right into sparring. His dojo is smaller than my dojo with carpet so they don’t have everyone sparring at the same time. They do like 1 minute rounds with 2 or 3 groups of kids then we switched groups. Sensei Tony let me referee the sparring matches which was fun to do. We played some fun sparring games too. One was where we had to get through 3 different sections with 3 different people trying to stop us from punching the dummy at the end and the other game was 2 or 3 on 1 so there would be 2 or 3 bad guys and they would try and attack the person in the middle. At their dojo they mostly focus on fighting that would most likely happen on the streets so if the bad guy had friends and they were all attacking you or if they have a weapon you can defend against them. Overall I really like Sensei Tony’s dojo and I will definitely be returning to train with him and his students.

That’s great that you visit another dojo to train at. There is so much to learn in karate. It is good to get a different prospective from different teachers. I can see why your numbers a high on kumite.
