This week I finished my 50,000 push-ups and sit ups, seeking out a master, my blogs, and had a big week of kumite (40 minutes). I was fortunate enough to participate in a Brazilian jiu jitsu training session with two friends of mine to experience other forms of martial arts. While I am elated to have met these huge milestones, I am also vey happy to experience a different form of martial arts with people who know different styles. I used to think of myself as fairly good at ground work, but rolling with people who practice jiu jitsu is on a different level. I was humbled to work with them. I think a well-rounded martial artist is paramount to knowing all aspects of martial arts. It was very enlightening to hone these skills. I am determined to practice other forms of martial arts even beyond karate so as to develop all my skills. “There’s more than one way to skin a cat” signifies a lot in this regard. Even in life, learning all ways to do things is important to being a well-rounded person.
