This week was kind of scary. On Tuesday, my school was under lockdown. There was a person on campus believed to be armed. The entire campus was told to shelter in place while police teams searched the campus. People were speculating that it was a student from Del Oro High School and there were rumors spreading about what they were armed with. This of course didn’t help the high-stress scenario that was taking place. With the prevalence of school shootings in America, it really puts into perspective that these incidents can happen anywhere and to anybody. Thankfully, nobody was hurt and the person was caught shortly after the campus was cleared. I went home early, as did most of the campus but still went to school the next day, albeit feeling a little uneasy.
Apart from the scare at school, nothing else really happened this week. I did take a cool picture of the moon though.
I heard about this from some of my other Auburn friends. I was probably part of the last generation of kids that didn’t have this in our minds as a potential threat. The Columbine shootings happened the year after I graduated. As a martial artist, you are probably like me in that sometimes we’ll take stock of a situation and wonder, “If it hits the fan right now, what would I do?”. In this case with the lockdown, I’m guessing that’s what everyone was thinking. Hopefully, for us with training, will be at least be the best at taking the appropriate action at the appropriate time.
