This week I was able to attend an out of school tournament in West Sacramento, so here’s a run down of what happened. First I participated in kata, and I tied for first place in my division. A funny thing that happened is the same person I tied for first this year, I tied for first last year at the same tournament, so it was cool to be able to reconnect with an old friend. Nevertheless, I think I did a pretty good job with my kata. I took my time and I think I executed the tips people have given me in the past. The second division I took part in was weapons, in which I got first place! My kata was interesting to say the least, I was planning on doing the first Bo kata we learn, but then multiple people in the division were doing that kata. So, I wanted to show the judges something different, but I’ve never completed the kata I was going to do. In doing so messed up a bit and around 1/3 of the way through I switched to the first bo kata we learn. So it was an amalgamation of the two katas, but in the end I played it off like it was nothing and I got first place. I was going to do kick boxing later but the tournament was taking a very very long time so sadly I had to leave early. Overall, it was still fun and I feel like I did the dojo proud.
