Journeys Begin with a Single Step

Today marks 1 full week completed of the One Heart Challenge black belt test. I am satisfied with my initial commitment to it but still anxious about keeping it up for 13 months. I also completed my 2nd marathon on 12/3. The race for me was also a big mental hurdle as there were several times during. At mile 12 I started to get dizzy to the point where I was unsure I could complete it. My personal rules were: don’t quit, put your head down, keep going. I also have to give a lot of credit hydration and nutrition as they are the real winners here. But persistence through the race showed me that I am able to overcome fear, anxiety, and physical/mental obstacles. So much like the marathon, the black belt test will throw a lot of things at me. I just have to follow the same rules for myself. And just as my fellow dojo-goers and friends were on the sidelines rooting me on for the marathon, the same people are there for me throughout this journey to my black belt. We are never as alone as we think we are. People care about me, you, and all of us. With that knowledge, I know I can do it. Don’t quit, keep your head down, keep going.

My current Challenge progress as of December 23, 2024.
