At my dojo on Halloween my sensei usually runs a food drive but this year for my service project I decided to set everything and run it myself along with some dojo friends. When I asked my sensei about what I needed to do he gave me a list and at first I thought it was a lot or work to set up the food drive but once I got it all done it really seemed easier than I thought. Me and 3 other brown belts were outside of the dojo from around 5 to 7pm collecting food from students and parents, we also were handing out candy which was fun to interact with everyone walked by, and we got a chance to advertise our dojo to a few families so hopefully we will see some new faces in our classes soon. There was also a special contest going on, the student who brought in the most food items got a free bo and a private class on how to use it with our sensei. I remember one year I got to do a special bo class with my sensei also and it was really amazing so I’m sure the winner enjoyed that one on one session. About a week after the food drive me, my dad, and one of my cousins who had a truck helped deliver the food to the River City Food Bank in Sacramento. It was really cool knowing that I was helping a ton of families in need of food. I was amazed that we reached our goal of 1000 lbs of food all in one night.

That’s really great that you collected 1000 pounds of food for River City Food Bank. You helped many people who need food. Well done on your community service project.
