This tournament was unlike any tournament I have ever been to in my life. It was a really fun experience but it was very different. I thought it was just a normal karate tournament but it was all types of martial arts which was a little new to me. This tournament was run by a gym/fighting instructor. There was a kata and sparring part. The other martial artists showed their katas but what was interesting to me was that they didn’t bow or introduce their katas, they just walked infant of the judges and performed. One thing that was really strange about this tournament was that there was music playing for each kata (only if we chose it) and for the sparring too. The sparring was located in a small ring which I have never done before, it’s always just a paddle mat on the ground with no barriers. We also had to wear boxing gloves so I guess it was more of a kickboxing style instead of karate where we focus on technique more than attacking the opponent with everything we’ve got. It was a fun but interesting experience and I’m glad I got the chance to go.
