Training with Intensity

In the book I just completed, “Karate-Do: My Way of Life”, it references training with intensity at all times. Not only with sparring but also with kata and basics. You must treat everything as if you are in actual battle and “always have the opponent in mind”. This is very important in all aspects of karate. We’ve all heard the term “you play like you practice”. In karate, if you train with a weak effort, you will also perform with a weak effort when/if the time for combat comes. It behooves you to train like you are in an actual fight every time. Mind you, sparring demands control so as not to hurt the people you are training with. Performing kata, however, should always be with intensity and imagine opponents are actually there. This will help in a serious situation as well as showing proper form. We must always be serious with our training and not be lax in it. Doing so will only hurt us in the future.

My current Challenge progress as of December 23, 2024.

  1. That is a good idea. It is not always easy to do. Some days I am glad I made it to class. I am always glad I came even when it was hard. Keep up the hard work.
