Yesterday at around 2:15pm during 5th period, an alarm went off. Which alarm was it? The earthquake and intruder alarms both sound exactly the same. After a few minutes of the alarm going off we finally figured out that it was the intruder alarm. Why? No clue. We were left in a dark, quiet room with a locked door and no information. Some people were understandably terrified. Not helped by the vp banging on the door and opening it. It’s no secret that school shootings are not an uncommon occurrence. My 5th period teacher eventually locked the door correctly, and we sat in pretty much silence for about 40 minutes. Of course, during this time plenty of rumors were going around surrounding what was actually happening. I was messaging my friend who was in a different class,(he was ta in a freshman history class) and he said that the freshman were being super loud and not taking it seriously. In some ways I don’t blame them. They’ve never experienced a lockdown before. They probably thought it was just a drill, until if became clear that it wasn’t. However things like this should always be taken seriously. At around 3pm an email was sent to the teachers saying that students who had driven to school could leave and anyone who had gotten a ride to school had to organize a ride home. I biked to school yesterday. There was nothing that said I had to stay at school so I lumped myself in with the people who could drive home. I figured if the police had determined that people could walk through the neighborhood to their cars, then I could bike through the neighborhood to my house. In the end the reason for the lockdown was a phone call someone made to the school saying that they were going to do some sort of violence to the campus. Eventually the police decided that the threat was not credible which I think is when they let us go home.

That is such a bummer. People are stupid to think that a prank like that is funny. I am glad everyone is safe and nothing happened. As a parent that is my worst nightmare. I hope it never happens for real.
