Kata Tournament

Over the weekend, the dojo hosted a kata tournament. I was one of the judges for the tournament, and it was my first time judging with score cards instead of flags. Judging with flags is a lot easier for me, so the idea of using a score card made me nervous. However, it actually went well, and it wasn’t nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. On another note, I also competed in the tournament. I was in a division with four people, including myself, and I won first place. Over my eight and a half years of training, I have competed in several tournaments, and I have placed before; however, this is my first ever tournament where I got first place. It was always a little bit hard for me when I wouldn’t place first, because I knew how close I was, and not placing was difficult; however, after this weekend, I feel like I am achieving one of my big goals in karate. My biggest goal in my training is to obtain my black belt, but placing first in a tournament was one of my other big goals. Finally reaching this goal felt really good, and I look forward to competing in more tournaments in the future in the hope that I can continue to do well in them!

  1. Congratulations on placing first in the kata tournament. It is a great picture of you and Avi with your metals. I have competed in many tournaments. Some tournaments I have not won a metal and some I have won medals. It is a great feeling of accomplishment when you finally win first place. Enjoy it.
