Crabby

Lionfish Dinner

Scuba diving has been a hobby of mine for about 9 years. My first dive trip was to Jamaica. Followed by Cozumel, Maui, Egypt, and Honduras. To celebrate my 100th dive, we dressed up as superheroes. I was Spider-Gwen (because one day I will marry Pete Parker 😍), my friend Devon was Captain Underpants and my sister, and my friend Carla were Wonderwoman. Even our Divemaster Ahmed put on a tutu and even did a dance underwater for us. It was so much fun. My mom (who hates boats and is not a diver) even spent the day on the boat with us and took pictures for me. This was a memorable milestone in my life. I am grateful that my mom was able to share it with me.

Scuba diving is so relaxing, to be on the ocean floor with all it’s creatures swimming around. There is so much to see. It is a whole other world down there. Untouched per say by the daily bustle from the world above (besides the negative effects that humans have to the ocean and its creatures). There is no social media, no rush to get from one place to another. Everything simply exists, quiet and peaceful. Its hard to describe unless you have done it. To anyone out there looking for a new adventure, I highly recommend scuba diving.

Of course we all want to see the big creatures… whalesharks, sharks, eels, TURTELS!! But I love finding the littles. The nudibranchs, crabs, shrimp baby fish. My favorite thing to do is go to the very bottom and lay next to a smaller reef, and just wait to see what comes out. Night dives are hands down the best dives! It’s when the cools stuff happens. These two videos are from our first night dive. The first was a little crab I found, just playing in the sand. The second one is a Lionfish. In our dive brief, our Divemaster explained how the Lionfish are accustom to divers and their torches (flashlights). If you point the torch down on the sand, the Lionfish will follow the light, in hopes to find a snack! We tried it once and it worked. After that we felt bad for the fish and tried not to point the lights down anymore. It was a little scary, because I would forget about the Lionfish, and I would get low to the sand looking for baby crabs and shrimp and a Lionfish would sneak up on me! No thanks!!! Lionfish have poisonous barbs and it’s very painful to be stung. We also saw two turtles, and a Spotted Eagle Ray.

My current Challenge progress as of May 8, 2024.

  1. What an amazing adventure. Congratulations on your 100 dive. The sea creatures in the ocean are fascinating to watch. You are lucky to see them up close underwater. So cool.
