This was a great week. The new white belt students who take my morning class just received their first stripe on their belt. They just finished, tested, and passed upper body basics. I am so excited for them. They are just beginning their karate journey. I still remember how excited I was when I received my first stripe on my belt. I felt such a sense of accomplishment. I was enthusiastic and ready to learn more karate. I think they feel the same. I can’t wait to teach them more.
On Saturday I participated in a kata tournament. I was grouped together in a very large group of boys and girls ages 13-16 and one adult male age 20. There were no other competitors for me in my age or female. I felt uncomfortable competing with all of them. I did the tournament to get more practice doing kata in front of a large group of people. I have not competed in 2 years. I was very nervous. I thought I did my kata with power, intensity, and loudness. I did not place, but I can be content with myself for doing it. I hope I can get better with more practice.

Hi Elan, I wanted to reach out and say “congratulations” on putting yourself out there to compete. As someone who struggles with the pressure of competition, it always think its extremely admirable to put yourself out there like that!
