This week and last week I taught more classes than the morning classes. Sensei Oliver and other black belt teachers went to Okinawa to practice karate for the week. I taught some evening classes. It is very different teaching a much larger class with all levels. There were white belts and brown belts near my level. I had to adapt the class to include the white belts as well as make it interesting for the brown belts. I was a little nervous about teaching the evening classes. As I have said before I am more of a follower than leader. This experience has forced me to become a leader. I have to come up with a curriculum and know why we are doing some movements. I have to be able to explain it to other students so they can understand it. I have to be patient and teach them. Sometimes they can get frustrated. I just encourage them and help them along in their practice. I am practicing myself to see what works for teaching and what does not. I feel like I have really changed and grown into a better martial artist because of teaching. Thank you students for giving me the privilege to teach you.
