Halloween is my favorite holiday, and it always has been! I’m not into the horror or gore that some people get into. I love the revelry around innocence and trust, such as when kids dress up and go trick-or-treating. Halloween has morphed for me through the decades. From being a kid that went trick-or-treating, to going to haunted houses with friends in high school, to navigating taking my own kids trick-or-treating and then ultimately them growing up and moving out to live their own lives. Thankfully we have found other adults that love the holiday as much as we do. We flew down to Orlando to attend a Halloween party on Friday night, and then flew back on Saturday. The friends that hosted it were ones we knew in Dover. The husband flew C-5s with my husband, and the wife is really into Star Trek like I am. We even stayed in their home during Hurricane Milton when it drove us out of DisneyWorld a few years ago! Spending time with them, as well as the other friends from Dover that have moved away, was very emotionally refreshing. Spending decades of your life in service to our country (or supporting a loved one that does), is a unique path that very few understand. It was comforting, actually, to spend time with long-time friends that have become chosen family. And so when a new friend of theirs said “Be silly in this photo”, we could be — because in a way, we were home!
