This weekend I went to Kaicho Chris Chase seminar. It was a very informative seminar. We warmed up with Seisan kata. Then we practiced bunkai for Seisan. I learned that stances are very important. For example, in horse stance an attacker can be thrown without much force if the defender has a strong horse stance. Then we did a series of short four movement katas. The attacker would do three punches or kicks. The defender would do three blocks. The last move the defender would strike back with a punch or kick. The attacker would block the last move. We did four different variations. He packed so much information in a short amount of time. I am glad I went because I can use some of the techniques in sparring and katas. Thank you Kaicho Chris Chase for teaching today.
This week I pulled a muscle in my back. I had to modify and adapt training. For pushups I had to do mostly knee pushups. For sit ups I did side to side crunches. For kata I did them slow and worked on technique. I did all walking for exercise. It is healing and I am feeling better. I taught my classes and went to my classes. This challenge has taught me to keep on going and to not quit. Perseverance is one of my favorite words this year.
