    Kata Tournament

Over the weekend, the dojo hosted a kata tournament. I was one of the judges for the tournament, and it was my first time judging with score cards instead of flags. Judging with flags is a lot easier for me, so the…

    • Congratulations on placing first in the kata tournament. It is a great picture of you and Avi with your metals. I have competed in many tournaments. Some tournaments I have not won a metal and some I have won medals. It is a great feeling of accomplishment when you finally win first place. Enjoy it.

    • Congrats!
Your hard work and dedication is paying off. And now you are seeing the results.

This is a great picture of you two!

How We Choose To Be Happy

My school year started almost two months ago, and in some of my classes, I have free time during the class period. Sometimes I try to finish my homework during that time so that I don’t have to do it at home, but m…

    • That sounds like a really positive uplifting book to read. I agree that happiness comes from one’s self. Money and material things cannot make someone truly happy. Kindness is an excellent way to feel joy and happiness.

    • You’ve convened me to add this to my reading list! I especially appreciate your key takeaways and summary.

    Color Guard

This past week, I have been more focused on getting my pushup and situp numbers in. Very quickly into the test, I fell behind on my pushup and situp numbers, so I have been working towards getting them back up.…

    • That is good you are able to do rotc with karate. The rotc will help you for exercise and endurance for this test. It is important to continue to do the hobbies you enjoy to stay balanced.

    • Olivia-san, thank you for being so welcoming and patient to me and Ashley on our first evening class! And for being the first to hold pads for me ever. We are rooting for you on your black belt journey! Thanks again.

    • What you are learning now about time management and self-discipline will stay with you for life. It will be a powerful tool as you move in to college and career!

    Balancing Life

After finishing my second week of this test, I feel a little better about how I am doing on this test than I was last week. The first week was hard with trying to find the balance between school, teaching classes,…

    • The first month is a learning curve to figure out what works best for you to be able to do the black belt challenge. It sounds like you are doing that. There are only so many hours in a day. Everything cannot be done in one day. It is good you are doing miles on the weekends because your weekdays sound very busy. The sit-ups, pushup, kata, acts of kindness, and meditation can be done daily to become a part of life. Consistency is the key.
