My school year started almost two months ago, and in some of my classes, I have free time during the class period. Sometimes I try to finish my homework during that time so that I don’t have to do it at home, but most of the time, I use my free time to read my book for my black belt test. On Friday, I finished my first book. The name of the book I read was “How We Choose To Be Happy.” The book centers around the authors of the book and their three-year journey across the world. On their journey, they went to different places across several countries and asked a question to as many people as possible, “Who is the happiest person that you know?” This question led them to meet over three hundred different people who all shared their stories as to why they are as happy as they can be. As I was reading, it became clear that everyone is happy for their own reasons, but these are my biggest takeaways as the things that came up the most often.

Blaming is useless. It doesn’t get us anywhere. Blaming is a way of dodging responsibility for your own actions

Being physically strong helps to be mentally strong. When you physically feel like your best self, it helps create a greater sense of self-worth

Appreciate others. It helps to create special moments with others, which helps you grow your bond with them

Happiness Succession. When you have financial success, it is a good feeling, but it is never as important as having happiness and success

Giving. Giving to others is important, but it has to be out of the kindness of our hearts, and not for ulterior motives or praise, because then it is not pure

  1. That sounds like a really positive uplifting book to read. I agree that happiness comes from one’s self. Money and material things cannot make someone truly happy. Kindness is an excellent way to feel joy and happiness.

  2. I love that you use your free time to read! The book is intriguing! Thank you for your inspiring post – the news is so toxic/negative these days and to consume literature with such positivity is commendable. You are rocking the one heart challenge!
