My personal goal was to teach karate and be successful as a teacher. I was very nervous to start teaching. It is hard for me to talk in front of people and be the center of attention. I was afraid everyone would stop coming to my morning classes after their free month of karate was done. The second month started and I still had students. I must have been doing something correct. I tried to remember how I started karate. I liked when movements were broken down step by step. I liked the repetition of doing punches or kicks until I remembered them and could do them easily. I would say good job to the students. I would also help them if they were struggling with something until they did it correctly. One of the difficult parts was sparring with them. I did not want to hurt them or they hurt each other. I learned great control as well as they did also. I wanted them to be safe, practice techniques, use control, have fun, and be comfortable with sparring any partners. I think I accomplished that because they continue to come to sparring days. My student have progressed well and changed ranks from a white belt. They are all yellow belts. Teaching is becoming a little easier for me. I think practicing anything for a year will help you to improve at it. Sometimes I have to fill in as a teacher in the evening classes. There are more students. I just do what I do in the morning classes. This was a challenging goal but, I think I succeeded in it. There is always more to learn to be a successful teacher. I am ready to learn more.
