Once I started the challenge I thought it would be difficult to do acts of kindness. I find them easy to do now. Once a week I volunteer at my daughter’s school in kindergarden. I spend a couple of hours helping in the classroom. I help with art projects, sorting school work, checking in and out books, and writing with the kids. The children are always happy to see me. I enjoy doing art projects with them. This week they made sponge art hearts for valentines day. The teacher needs volunteers or the children would not be able to do art projects. She teaches the rest of the class while I take one or two children to do art. I also help them with their writing for the day. They often need help sounding out words to spell. I feel valuable and useful to the teacher and the children. It is a rewarding job. I recommend volunteering as an act of kindness to all the candidates. It helps many people and makes the person doing it feel good.

I love that you volunteer in this kindergarten even without having a child in the class. Adult volunteers and mentors are critical to providing students with personal attention and extra activities that a single teacher can’t provide to a large class. “It takes a village to raise a child,” and these kids (and their families, and the rest of your community) are so lucky that you are part of their village!
