Recently my husband and I visited Scotland. We did the Johnnie Walker Experience, where the icon of scotch whisky introduces you to the various regions of the nation and gives a history of this global brand. Think a distillery tour meets Disney. At any rate, their mantra is “Keep Walking.” And as I’ve just reviewed my numbers, along with other aspects of the One Heart Challenge, I am reminding myself that I simply need to “keep walking.”
In this challenge, I’ve observed we tend to focus on the numbers. And they are absolutely important! But they are simply a way to track a big project over time. Looking at the other aspects of the challenge — the paper, the training with a master, the service project — these daily numbers are simply the scaffolding that allows us to anchor in habits to make long-term projects a reality. So as I review where I need to catch up, I also need to ask myself “What’s holding me back? Why am I afraid in certain areas and I simply make myself stuck?” What’s ironic is that the one thing I love to do, which is writing, is where I’m furthest behind. Hmmm. I’m sure I’ll unpack that some as the year continues and I grow into the black belt I can be.
So, in the words of Winston Churchill, “If you’re going through Hell, keep going!” Let’s keep taking this challenge one step at a time!
