Awards Banquet

On Sunday, our dojo held an Awards banquet. We’ve spent the last few weeks planning it: seating, tickets, nominations. It was fun getting to see which students people nominated. It was very hard to pick who I thought should get the award; all the students people nominated are great, and I really had to take time and think about who I wanted to pick. Getting ready for the banquet was also really fun. Elinor, Sonia, and I all got ready together. Since I’m homeschooled, I’ve never really had the school dance experience:  getting ready together, taking photos, and listening to music while we all get ready. I never got to do that, so it was really fun to finally experience it!

It was also really fun to see all the kids get dressed up in their fancy dresses and suits; I’m pretty sure I saw someone with a tiara. Everyone was collecting and trading things from their gift basket. I was also in charge of starting the award presentations. I was nervous, but I normally just think of it like acting, just a script to read or a character to play. After I put it in that perspective, it gets a lot easier for me to seem calm and confident.

My numbers have also been going well. I’m officially past 50% on makiwara, and I’m almost there on kata!

My current Challenge progress as of October 6, 2026.
