Avi, Gail, and I have officially completed the first week of our black belt test! I have been training in Isshinryu karate for roughly 5 years now and I am so excited to be starting this journey. I was 12 years old when I started training in karate and ever since then I have been dreaming of getting my black belt. I am so grateful for the opportunity to take this test with my friends and not have to go through this alone.
Week one has started off very well and I have kept up on all my numbers. One thing I wasn’t expecting is how exhausted and sore I would be. Having school, karate, numbers to get in, and other extracurriculars, I have ended my days feeling very drained. I am hoping that once school is out for summer break, I will have a little more energy and that I can get ahead on numbers. Although I’ve been sore, I have really enjoyed this first week and I am very excited to continue for the next 13 months.

So excited to see you go through this journey!
Woohoo! Way to get through week 1, Elinor! Great effort to start the challenge! Remember, we will be doing this quite a while. We simply have to pace ourselves 🙂
Congratulations on starting the black belt challenge. The first week is difficult because your body has to get used to all the extra exercise you are doing. Your body will adapt. You just have to give it time. I am here if you need advice or support. See you in the dojo.
I can already see your commitment to this test in your training in class and also the extra work you are putting in by coming to the dojo early, on the weekends, and staying after class to get your numbers in. You won’t always be excited to put the work in, but if you maintain this consistency in your self-discipline, it will carry you to the finish line for sure!
