Last Friday, my family and I drove up to Arcata, CA to tour Cal Poly Humboldt. Senior year is approaching really fast and I need to decide where I’m applying for college. Honestly, up until this past spring I had no idea what I wanted to do after high school. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go to college, take a gap year, or just get a job. Ultimately, I came to the conclusion that I wanted to go off to college to study environmental science. What I liked about Cal Poly Humboldt is that it’s close to home, but it’s far enough away to give me independence.
The campus tour was amazing. The school had everything I wanted! The best part was the forest surrounding it. I’ve always known that I wanted to live in an area with LOTS of trees and cool temperatures. A plus is that the beach is very close as well. The tour made me even more excited to graduate high school and I definitely have my heart set on this school.

How exciting! This is a fun life season and I’m glad you’re making the most of it. Good luck getting into your top choice school!
Humboldt State now Cal Poly Humboldt is an excellent school. I went there for my degree in Zoology. It has an incredible science program. The outdoors there are so beautiful. You will never run out of things to do like hiking, biking, camping, rock climbing, rafting, and backpacking. If you love the outdoors and major in environmental science it’s the place for you. Good luck in applying.
If you and Olivia both end up at Humboldt, you are going to be significantly increasing the amount of Isshinryu karate-ka there by a large amount!
