One of the requirements for my black belt test is to run a community service project. For my community service project I am working with a women’s center, called Wellsprings Women Center, to make care packages for women in need. Wellsprings helps women who have lived in bad environments get back on their feet by offering many different services to them. I put a lot of thought into how I wanted this project to look. Trying to find the most efficient way to get donations was the most difficult part. After a lot of brainstorming, I decided that I was going to use a sticky note system to get people to donate. People could take as many sticky notes as they wanted, and donate whatever is on those sticky notes. At the end of every week I am going to see what items I am short of from the donations and I am going to adjust the sticky notes based on what I need the most items of. People can also donate cash, and with the cash I will go to stores and buy any items that I am short of from the donations and buy more of them so that all of the care packages have an equal number of items in them. Any leftover money will be donated directly to the Wellsprings. In about a month I will have a day where anyone from the dojo can come in and create and draw cards that will be put inside of the care packages. It is hard to know exactly how many packages I am going to be able to make because it is dependent on how many donations I receive from families in the dojo. My goal is to make at least 50 packages. I will be posting more updates on my project soon!

That is a great community service project. The donations are probably very helpful for women who need those items. Thanks for providing help to people who are struggling. Kindness during the black belt challenge made a lasting positive impact on my life. I think it will do the same for you.
